Molly Roth For The Summertime

Grass Valley‘s own music diva extrordinare…Ms. Molly Roth singing her song “For The Summertime”. Molly tracked the synth parts on her Macbook and keyboard. She brought Sage Poe in to add the harp track and a personal friend to track the solo violin you see performed live in the studio simultaneously as we were videotaping these additional tracks  at my studio. Her fantastic vocal tracks were added to the final mix using my favorite vocal studio mic the AKG c441.

The day we went outside to tape the scenes you see in the video, nature really did us a great favor by laying down a beautiful layer of virgin snow to offset the warm, tasty lyrics of Molly’s treatise on her view of summertime’s steamy allure.

The entire outside scenes were captured on the Canon xl-2. A clever green screen was set up at Vista point on highway 20 just outside of Nevada City, Ca. The Gulfstream was not our rental but a corporate jet leased to a lumber outfit from Montana in for a spell at our own Nevada County Airport. The interiors were all done in the blue wall room/live room of my recording studio.

During this process Molly was followed around by videographer Mike Blombau during the taping of his documentary of The Young Composers Music in the Mountains PBS special that was aired nationally and on Sacramento’s KVIE channel 6. Scenes in the documentary included Molly in her element…the studio! Not only is Molly a tireless songwriter and performer she is also a great producer in the studio environment.

Please press play, turn up the volume and enjoy this multi layered sonic poem. I am please to have been the videographer and editor for this great look into one of our area’s best and brightest.
